WHAT TO CHECK BEFORE YOU HIRE FROM ANYONE
Ask for the certificate, not the assurance. Every hire company will tell you the equipment is tested. Ask for the actual DOP certificate, dated, for the machine being sent to you. If nobody can produce it before delivery, treat it as not existing.
Check the unit is sized for your enclosure, not for their yard. The most common hire mistake is accepting whatever is available. Under-size it and it will not hold the differential. Over-size it and the enclosure becomes unworkable.
Confirm what happens if the job runs over. Removal jobs slip. Ask how extensions are handled and whether the rate changes before you book, not on day nine.
Ask who decontaminates it on return. It changes what the hire actually costs you in labour, and it is the question people forget until the truck is booked.

Why contractors hire rather than buy
Hire earns its place in three situations. A job that needs more capacity than your own fleet
covers, for a few weeks only. A machine you need once a year and cannot justify owning. And
the job you have won but not yet been paid for, where the cash is better used elsewhere.
There is a fourth, quieter one: trying a machine on a real site before committing to buying
it. A spec sheet cannot tell you whether a unit fits through the doorways you actually work
with.
What is in the hire fleet
Negative pressure units across the Deconta Smart Dec and Green Dec ranges, sized from small
domestic enclosures up to large industrial volumes. Industrial HEPA air scrubbers. Mobile
and modular decontamination units, personnel locks and the Smart Door 1000. Water management
and treatment systems for capturing and filtering contaminated water from wet removal.
Floor grinders and the Deconta MKS grinding system for silica and surface preparation work.
Everything in the fleet is the same equipment we sell. Nothing in it is a lesser hire-spec
variant.
Hired equipment still has to meet the same requirements
This is the part that catches people out. Hiring a negative pressure unit does not move the
compliance obligation onto the hire company. The enclosure still has to hold negative
pressure, the HEPA filtration still has to be effective, and the pressure differential still
has to be monitored and recorded, regardless of who owns the machine.
Which is why the condition of hired plant matters more than its price. A unit that has been
knocked around on someone else's site and not tested since cannot demonstrably do the job,
and an enclosure you cannot demonstrate is an enclosure you cannot defend.
Every unit that leaves our facility is serviced, filter-checked and DOP tested, and the
certificate goes out with the machine.
What comes with a hire
The certificate, the correct filters fitted, and the same technical support you would get if
you bought the machine. If something goes wrong on site you are calling the people who
service the fleet, not a call centre.
Sizing, if you are not sure
The most common hire mistake is taking whatever unit is available rather than the one that
fits the enclosure. Under-size it and it will not hold the differential. Over-size it and
the enclosure becomes unworkable and the sheeting will not stay up. Tell us the enclosure
volume, the access and the duration and we will tell you which unit, rather than selling you
the biggest one on the shelf.
Hire, or buy?
Worth doing the arithmetic. On most of the fleet, somewhere between four and eight weeks of
hire reaches the purchase price of the machine. If a unit is going to be on your sites more
than a couple of months a year, owning it is usually cheaper, and you control when it gets
serviced. We will tell you when that is the case, because a customer who buys is worth more
to us than one who hires indefinitely.

Do I get a DOP certificate with a hire unit?
Yes. DeconSafe is a DOP testing provider, so the certificate is issued in-house rather than outsourced, and we can reissue it if you need a copy for a clearance file.

Yes. Negative pressure unit, decontamination unit, water management and consumables can go out together, which is the main advantage of hiring from a supplier that carries the whole range.
