Decontamination units are available in three sizes, each with a different number of internal chambers. The choice of decon unit depends on the type of contamination and the legal requirements of the country where it’s being used. Operators determine the specific requirements for their decon units.
Designed for safety and efficiency, these units allow employees to enter from a contaminated environment directly into a specially designated room within the decon unit, typically located at the back of the trailer. In this room, contaminated overalls can either be placed in a collection tank or vacuumed using an optional hand vacuum cleaner. A negative pressure system in this room pulls air through a filter, creating a pressure gradient that prevents dust from the contaminated area from spreading to other rooms.
After passing through the contaminated room, employees enter a shower area equipped with warm water. Next is the clean room, where they can change back into their regular clothes. Depending on the model, additional rooms may be available, featuring options such as a separate compartment for disposing of work clothes, an extra shower, or a hand washbasin.
For added convenience, each room can be equipped with up to two compressed air connections for supplying air to respiratory masks. The control system, located in the clean room, allows users to manage the unit’s functions, including the space heater. Refer to chapter 4.4 for detailed control system instructions.
Decon units are available in two energy configurations: electric and self-sufficient. The electric version requires a permanent 230V power supply, while the self-sufficient version is powered by batteries located in the technical room, which can be recharged via a 230V connection or an optional solar system. Additionally, a diesel tank can be mounted on the tow hitch A-frame to heat the shower water using a Webasto heater.
Water for the shower is supplied by an internal tank. The unit can either be directly connected to the mains water supply or use an optional pump to draw water from an external container into the internal tank.
